I've been looking at Frozen Tear for a while and thinking I'd really like someone else's opinion on it, but I'm (sort of) partway through the third draft and asking for feedback on the second draft seems like a waste of a reader's time. Too long, too messy, not even in the right POV. Even if I don't figure out how to fix the horrible plot holes, I'd at least need to fix those problems.
So what I was wondering was this: hypothetically, would anyone be interested in agreeing to read and comment on the third draft if I commit to finishing it by a certain date? The thinking behind this is that if I have x days to get a third draft written and tidied up, I'm much more likely to produce something rather than just staring at it and feeling gloomy.
Not asking for an actual agreement right now - just sort of floating the idea as a general thing. If anyone was interested in going for something like this, it would be a reciprocal deal - I'd also commit to doing an equivalent task (of their choice) for them.
Hmm... second hypothetical arising from the first: since we have the 'I have a plan! Attack!' challenge with all of us aiming to complete a draft by the end of the year, what about an agreement that participants will either read and 'review' everyone else's completed drafts, or do a more detailed alpha/beta read of one other person's completed draft?
The general sort of idea for an IHAPA-related thing would probably be that we'd get an 'extension' (Jan/Feb '16? Or maybe up to March as well to include NaNoEdMo) for any tidying up required after completing the draft. Maybe even a full 'IHAPA II: Edits of Doom' challenge, with an alpha/beta exchange at the end.
Anyway, two hypothetical situations:
1. One or more Stevians might agree to read, review, critique or something Siana's third draft of her Brain-Eating WIP From Hell (aka The Frozen Tear), which she'd promise to have in readable condition by a certain date. Agreement would be reciprocal.
2. IHAPA II challenge for editing our IHAPA novels, with an alpha/beta exchange at the end.
Any thoughts?
