SSSSOOOOO.
What's everyone doing in July? Plans? No idea?
Usually we do a whole bunch of Camp-themed stuff during Camp NaNo, including a Steve cabin. I think so far though, there's only one person interested in doing Camp. So, sub questions, who's thinking of doing Camp?
To everyone, any type of thing you'd like to see on Steve? Camp related? General? Any area you're trying to work on in particular?
For myself, I am not doing Camp, so I'd prefer activities which can be done to supplement Camp, but will also work alone.
Personal plans, I'm just trying to maintain a list of things I actually got done, read more, and write kind of regularly.

No plans and no Camp for me. Just a vague idea that I want to keep exploring the ideas from my June bunnies.
Well... I sort of have a bit of a plan. I'm thinking of going spreadsheet-free for the month, for complicated and weird reasons that I'll possibly dump in my PPT later.

BURN ALLLL THE SPREADSHEETS! I'm just going to spend July organizing my notes, which are getting out of hand, and writing. That's it. I'm trying to keep things simple.

I'll be doing camp (as usual) though stupid me went out and bought some used PS3 games the other day, so ciao July!I'm up for whatever activities you guys come up with, and I'll be happy to fail them all

Okay, two people doing Camp, two not. Wheee!
My lack of planning will be my plan for July. My only deliverable will be a list of things I've done, which I may or may not even post here, depending on whether I I am too lazy to write them down.

Maybe 'lists of things' should be our main challenge for the month. We could have a thing where every day (or at least most days) we post a list of all the things we've done since the last list. Also maybe a few comments about how you're going with it, any challenges you're facing and so forth.
That's basically just 'let's do normal PPT posts in July', isn't it?

Yeah, I had the same brilliant idea.
I already know that I won't do any challenge that is beyond the scope of my plan.
Maybe we could do a Daily Flash Fiction challenge? 100 Words.
Or daily snips? Like two sentences?

So I was just reading this: Fiction University: A Less Lonely Way to Get More Writing Done. It's all about accountability and setting challenges for each other, which might not really be what we need right now, but it started me thinking. We don't necessarily need someone pushing us to get a thing done, but maybe we do need some kind of pact that we won't stay silent for too long at a stretch - and that if we do go silent, the others will try to do something about it. Sort of like, maybe we all aim to post something on our PPTs at least every three days. But, we also agree that if we log onto Steve and see that someone else hasn't posted within that time, we'll post something for them. Could be anything from a question to a kitten - just sort of a 'hey, people know you exist' thing. Thoughts?

I love that idea. We definitely need more words, less void.
Once that gets going, I also think that adding some amount of challenge later would help. I don't think we can go back to that previous state where we tried to come up with something for everyone every month. It's hard setting your own challenge if you don't know what to do. What DID work in the past was when everyone moaned about the same issue, and we did something to target that. This time it's harder because everyone is doing different things.
I really like this.
Why not get everyone together to plan what would work best for each person? As usual, we'd talk about what we're working on, what we're trying to do. Everyone else would chip in and fill in the blanks. That way each person gets their own plan/challenge, everyone chips in and works together, we get to pick each other's brains/shared knowledge, and we keep each other on task.
Also the doing things together bit. We usually always list out our next steps, or our weak areas. How about this time, we have those with common areas work together?
Friendly competition would work for me. I'm not super competitive, but merely racing for fun and encouragement is good. We don't have to use words as metrics. I like the team writing idea.

Idea: a two-part challenge.
Part 1 - come up with a detailed explanation of what we're working on, both specific and general. Next steps, things we're uncertain about, things we know we're going to struggle with etc. Might need a shared list of questions for this part to keep it all fairly consistent.
Part 2 - read everyone's posts, chip in with suggestions and improvements, volunteer to help with specific things, maybe suggest resources.
I guess also probably a part 3 where we build up a detailed plan out of the first two parts and then post that for further comment, and then a part 4 where we actually work on putting our plans into action.

That sounds good. I have no idea how to keep it consistent when there are so few people and so many areas, but I guess we could have broad categories, and each person could select what they're struggling with.
Okay. Maybe something like this...
Area of doubt: [Editing]
What I'm trying to do: [Spit shine to brilliance / Get it readable / etc.]
What I've done: [Made one pass and made notes about what I didn't like. I've also tried putting scenes on notecards, but it's kind of hopeless.]
What I'm struggling with: [Putting them all together into something that makes sense. I just poke at it endlessly. This draft is just a mess of sentences and no plot. Also, I have all these notes about what I want to do, but I'm struggling to organize them all together. How do I keep track of all of them so I can get a clear picture of where to go next?]
Example: [Post a snip showing an example of this chaos. May not be applicable for some areas.]

I was thinking maybe starting with something similar to this one from Terribleminds: Line Up For Your Penmonkey Self-Evaluations. Then probably attack specific issues, weaknesses etc. as a next step. (Suggesting this because at the moment I'd probably be like 'Area of doubt: all the things' and that's really not specific enough to be any use.)

That is far better than what I came up with. Yes, it's a great questionnaire!
I think we can write up this challenge.

Questions for Jᴀy V. Aꜱᴛᴇʀ 💀🐍, Danielle Wayland and anyone who's thinking of doing the self-evaluations but hasn't done one yet: 1. Interested in continuing on with the next stage of 'read everyone's posts, chip in with suggestions and improvements, volunteer to help with specific things, maybe suggest resources'? (Note: my present idea here is for each of us to come up with a short list of questions for the other participants to answer.) 2. If yes, do you want to do it in what remains of July or leave it until August?
