I was randomly poking through profile settings and noticed this option:
Posting Default Sets what editor you default to when creating posts. [ ] Preview [ ] BBCode
Not meaning to point fingers at anyone in particular, but I've noticed that when we're doing sign-up/progress threads here or on NaNoFiMo it's only the people who've been around for years that seem to know what 'delete the [ quote ] tags' means. As in, people who've been a member of one or more Proboards forums since back in the olden days before everything was updated to V5. In V4, what's now 'BBCode view' was normal, but since the option exists I'm wondering if newer users are given 'Preview' by default and never really exposed to BBCode to know what the heck I'm going on about, and if instructions that seem clear to me might as well be in a foreign language to others.
So, I'm wondering if I need to change the way these threads run, change the instructions on how to use the threads, do something else entirely...? Some examples of ideas:
* One option might be to stop using the thread for progress-tracking and replace it with progress bars in profiles or signatures.
* Or, it could run more like monthly goal/progress threads on NaNoWriMo or Absolute Write where we just post a comment on our progress (sort of like a shared mini-PPT/group chat).
Post any suggestions or comments in this thread.

I never thought of that.
I see the BBCode view by default, but that's because I selected BBCode in that control. Before that I used to get preview.
Then again, I usually write my posts directly in the box at the bottom of the thread and manually write in all my BBCode without bothering to click create post.
I think it might just be better to leave it up to the user whether and how they want to track and what kind of tracker they use. That does kind of get rid of the whole seeing-everything-in-one-place thing, but I don't mind if no one else does. I'd suggest we have a thread for anyone who wants to comment with progress updates, except didn't we run into The Great PPTxProgress Thread Redundancy Paradox when we last did that?
