Sort of a 'someone should start a conversation about...' conversation. I always feel like I should be asking a lot more questions and starting a lot more discussion topics, but I don't really know what to talk about. I suppose I could start a thread about that... which is probably what I'm doing right now, isn't it? Some random thoughts/ideas: - Writing characters of gender, orientation, personality, ethnicity and so on different to your own.
- Feelings of "I'm doing it wrong."
- Something I don't even know how to turn into a bullet point about organisation vs. muse.
- Approaches to editing and rewriting.
- Choice of reading material compared to preferences when writing.
- Maybe NaNoWriMo writing compared to rest-of-year writing.
- Identifying your strong points and weak points as a writer. Maybe this could be a critique exercise of some sort?
- Getting organised
- Social media
- Writing advice we particularly love or hate.
- There must be all kinds of stuff about character creation and development we can talk about, both how we do it ourselves and what we think about the stuff we read.
- Something about music. Deeper than just 'do you listen to music while writing?' Stuff like character theme songs, switching genre/subgenre, books that demand music different to what you usually listen to, albums that tell or inspire stories...
Anyway, the idea of this thread is that you can just throw lists of possibilities at it. Hopefully, your vague possibilities inspire my thread topics and vice versa. E.g. I say 'random chatter about planning, pantsing and all points in between' as a vague idea, someone else starts a thread like "Tell us about your writing process" and someone else starts "Ever heard of 'plan as you go'?".
So...
*waits for ideas to flood in*

"Ever heard of 'plan as you go'?". In other words, pantsing? ;D I'm digging this thread and would love to discuss most, if not all of these. But for now, more ideas: - Failing or succeeding to avoid Mary Sue-type characters
- Problems critiquing others (i.e., finding the right balance between constructive/tearing down, what we like/what we don't like, avoiding feelings, etc)
- Stolen from feedme: how we can't talk writing with non-writers
- How to pants as a planner and vice versa
- Tips for finishing stories we've started
- Worksheets! (Idk what it is, but I love filling out story-related worksheets)
- The great who counts as an "author" vs. "writer" debate
- Info-dumps, and how to avoid them
Hope some of this inspired something. ^.^

How do you 'find' your story amidst the chaos and drill it down into a strong synopsis, and how much flailing required before you start writing?
That moment when you find the things you didn't intend to put there. *huge grin*
Funny typos or weird wordings. Silly, but I loves me a good laugh.
I'll probably have some more in a bit.
LOVING all these ideas, btw. Btw, anyone can start a discussion any time they want. These are ideas to get everyone started, but you don't necessarily need to wait to post here first. If you have an idea -- go for it!

Trying to think of a whole bunch of threads to start. Not succeeding, so I'm reviving this one? Brilliant ideas for threads, anyone?

How to write exercises for something you don't actually know how to do in order to fool yourself into doing them, thus learning how to do them, thus negating the need for an exercise.
Temporarily.
Writer problems.
