Hi imperius.
I'm new here too. Now I was doing a lot of writing prior to last week but due to an injury, I'm down to low numbers myself. Hopefully we can help each other out.

Hello, My name is scirian. Hi there. I am a person. And a writer. Sometimes those are mutually exclusive. Not in my case. I am working on a lot of projects right now. I like high-fantasy and sci-fi, but have a cultish passion with mystery (in particular...MURDER). I am setting up shop here having competed in NaNoWriMo for the last two years (I always win...yes...I can see the future...) I hear this is where the cool people are in the in between months. So I am setting personal writing goals here. I found out there are all sorts of wrimo's throughout the year.
This month is National haiku Writing Month. I am competing in that. I am well on track to do that. I found out that it is also Make a Thing month, which I started today. And it is national Letter Writing Month. I am sending letters to friends and family starting today, and to my Congress people once I run out of friends...and family.

Hellooo. I haven't been around for a while..* But yesterday for some reason I got an email letting me know Siana posted in her PPT and I was like, "Oh yeah, Steve.." So, lemme re-introduce myself since it's been a while. I'm TalviLinna, Tal for short. I write mostly fantasy, mostly with queer characters and a lot of angsty romance - but also a lot of graphic fight scenes, lest you get the wrong idea For a while I was doing femmeslash versions of fairytales, but now I'm working on "my epic," a fantasy trilogy of epic proportions (obviously) - I'll talk more about it in my PPT. Besides a writer, I'm a freelance translator (Finnish, Swedish, Chinese and French into English) and work part-time in a library and a boring office job. I listen to a lot of metal music (mostly atmospheric black metal, although recently my taste for power metal and melodeath has rekindled a little) and like to stomp around at goth/industrial clubs. I have waist-length hair which I like to throw around at concerts and goth clubs. I call it my death metal hair (google the band Obituary if you're wondering why - although I'm not that hulking and manly; I look a bit like Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom ). I live with my girlfriend and my eight-year-old daughter in Maryland. I'm genderless, and my pronouns are they - them - their. (I should add that to my signature.) (And is there some way to get an "other" option added to the profile for gender? Right now mine is set to the less objectionable of the two, but it'd be nice to able to select my actual gender (non-binary)). I think I've gone on long enough now - more in my PPT *I think my tendency to disappear for long periods has to do with my one-track mind. I have attention issues that make me distractable, but also give me the power to hyper-focus - but that means I only ever want to do one thing, all the time. So something like "remember to check your work email AND personal email AND Facebook AND Steve" is really hard. Usually only one gets checked. Usually work email. Or none if I get sucked into an intensive project (tight deadline for work, NaNo, etc). I've pretty much given up on my personal FB profile - I post like once a month and never check my newsfeed or messages. (Not checking the newsfeed is because of social anxiety though.) I've been doing ok at posting on my writer FB profile every now and then, though - so maybe I can remember to check Steve, too, if I make it one of my writing tasks.
I also have a very low need for socializing. I live with my gf now, and even though she's away a lot these days working on a big project, just talking to her every couple days fills my socializing quota right up and I don't have any motivation to seek socialization elsewhere O.o Possibly not healthy, so I ought to try and check Steve for that reason too

Hellooo. I haven't been around for a while..* But yesterday for some reason I got an email letting me know Siana posted in her PPT and I was like, "Oh yeah, Steve.." That's weird how that happens. Once in a while I get the same message, so I'm not sure what kind of internal logic is involved there. It's some kind of automated Proboards process, not something anyone controls. (Although it's kind of fun to hear that me posting is such a momentous occasion that the entire server ecosystem has to celebrate it!) 'Death metal hair' guy is the one who looks like Nathan Explosion, isn't he? Also, stop by the Metal thread and share some of that atmospheric black metal? Unfortunately, you can only set male/female - it's a limitation of the forum software which has often been complained about and will be addressed in their next release. However, there is a 'gender visibility' option in the profile (in the 'privacy' tab) and if set to no it won't show the symbol beside your posts. Socialisation for people who wouldn't otherwise socialise much could well be Steve's purpose in life.

Ok, so that getting sucked into a big work project thing happened, and I didn't do anything else for about a week, including sleeping on two of the nights >.< Thanks for the tip about the gender visibility. I would have just said nothing and left it a mystery, but since people here knew me before, and my interpretation of my gender has changed a couple times, I thought I'd better explain. I think I'll write a thing in my PPT (eventually) explaining what it actually is. As for Obituary's death metal hair, I meant the whole band I especially admire the singer's hair (they guy who's in front in all the band photos). Mine isn't quite so voluminous and wavy though. Perhaps Insomnium is a better example for me personally - I'm from Finland too, so, same hair type. My hair is a lot like that of their singer/bassist (again, the guy in front in the photos). Obituary is such a giant of traditional death metal, though, and everyone in the band has amazing hair, so they're my go-to example for "death metal hair." (Even if Insomnium's music videos could be mistaken for shampoo commercials.. )

Hi, I am NovelBat, (because I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2012 and bats are cute and awesome!) Way way back in 2004 I purposed to make it a personal conviction to NEVER reveal my real name online and I generally don’t do it. I am IAmTheMetatron1 on Twitter, IAmTheMetatron1946 on AO3, BeholdTheMetatron1946 on fan fiction dot net (but I am never on there anymore because they don’t take anything seriously and that annoys me.) and DumblesHatngSlyth82 on wattpad I mostly write fan fiction and it’s usually Harry Potter/Dogma and several other fandoms. I had a massive embarrassing crush on Alan Rickman (I’m female by the way) I'm 35 (as of 2 weeks yesterday but you know what? who's counting because I'm not exactly celebrating it this year (I'm going to see Wicked in London with family and very much playing down the whole being 35 thing)
I am unemployable and VERY basically educated (that's what happens when you mainstream a child who has a VERY rare disability instead of homeschooling them... my mother raised me alone so homeschooling wasn't an option really, though it could have been if the local authority had had the gumption to do so!) Unfortunately I live in the UK.
Until recently I was taking a tap dancing class (Unfortunately it's too far away and too expensive to get to and I don't drive and since there’s no bus to and from the class I would have had to go by taxi) After Christmas, and NaNo I am going to start Irish dancing again. I play clarinet (I’ve been taking lessons since January of this year) I also have a mandatory care package.
I am a WWE fan but I only have the WWE Network because Sky Sports have a habit of bumping WWE off their schedule for “real” sports I’m also a New York Yankees fan. I don’t have the channel that the Baseball games are on anymore because I thought I was going back to dancing so I cancelled that channel. I’ll get it back in April when the new season starts. I may or may not get the movie package over Christmas — it depends on how well NaNo goes.
I know exactly what I am writing for NaNo (I'm a planner) but it's a secret until I post the prequel on AO3
well, that's me in a nutshell, I hope I'm doing this properly (I'm a barely educated luddite, computers were still almost big enough to fill a room with when I was a kid!)

Welcome TalviLinna and novelbat! Tal, Insomnium is the Blackest Black standard by which I judge death metal hair. I would love to know what hair products to achieve such beautiful slow-motion headbanging art. Then again, maybe it can't be created. Maybe he's born with it. Maybe it's -- /facepalm/ But seriously, WHY must shampoo commercials limit themselves to giggling girls in the shower? If they used perfect death metal headbanging hair to market things, I'd buy the shit out of that product. New people, don't worry if Steve sometimes slows down. We're a pretty small group, but there are always regulars who come back! Siana Blackwood Yes, Steve is the socialization space for people who don't like socializing. Places like Tumblr, Twitter, and AW are great for more introverted people, but in order to get something out you have to keep posting stuff and stay active. If you don't, you get thrown out of the loop, have a dead feed, and still find out about everything last or don't find out at all. I don't know about y'all, but this DRAINS me nearly as much as talking to real people. It's work, and taxing work at that. I need to be able to stay away sometimes, knowing that when I come back my "friends" won't have forgotten my existence. My favorite part about Steve is that if you need to fall into a hole for three months, you do it, no judgement. Granted, there are risks. Steve may or may not be starting to turn into an entity in its own right that acts separately from the combined will of its members. Novelbat, you're doing fine! Edit: Sometimes I wish we could give out points or karma on this place, because Alan Rickman! Alan Rickman, always. *runs*

Welcome to Steve, novelbat ! I see you've already joined Sept/OctNoWriMo and found the introduction thread, so you're doing fine with getting started on Steve . The title of your current project sounds really interesting Jᴀy V. Aꜱᴛᴇʀ 💀🐍: I thought I had a better one than that, but it's all I could find. Nothing seems to be where I thought it was since the Photobucket thing. It wouldn't have been so bad if they'd at least made the placeholder images link back to the real ones so it would be possible to fix things .

Hey, folks! The name's Kit, and I've been doing NaNoWriMo for over a decade now; I just found this place via a link on the NaNo forums, and I'm stoked to be here! What to say about myself... -I'm 30 years old and a Valentine's baby! -I'm nonbinary, they/them pronouns, and can't wait for the update where identifying as nonbinary is an option... -I live with my parents helping pay the bills, and we have three adorable pet cats who don't always get along. -I work at a bookstore and LOVE IT! -I only work part-time because I have stress and anxiety disorders and absolutely freak out if I'm working much more than 20 hours per week... -My work hours are AWESOME though because one day every week I DM a Dungeons & Dragons game for some customers, and another day every week I do storytime for kids! And of course working in a bookstore is just awesome by itself... -I love to read and write and I also love music, comics, cartoons, video games, anime... A ton of things! -I'm a Hellenic polytheist and have a shrine to Hermes that I want to improve (right now it's just a haphazard thing on my bookshelf). I'm also interested in Vodou, but don't consider myself a Vodouisant because I know how communal that religion is and there's absolutely no community for it where I live. -All of my writing is LGBT+ in some way. -My favorite books are the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, the Jeeves & Wooster stories by P.G. Wodehouse, Enemy Mine by Barry B. Longyear, the Redemption's Heir trilogy by Anne M. Pillsworth, and Ruthanna Emrys's Lovecraftian short stories!

Welcome to Steve, MxKit! As well as the front page message, this probably sums up what Steve is all about: New people, don't worry if Steve sometimes slows down. Steve may or may not be starting to turn into an entity in its own right that acts separately from the combined will of its members. We run activities every now and then: currently, SeptNoWriMo/OctNoWriMo and an ongoing reading challenge. There's likely to be more stuff in October as we prepare for NaNoWriMo, so if you have any favourite prep activities now is the time to suggest them. Plus, there will definitely be wordcount-boosting challenges during November. Oh, and there's a 'share your work' section for critique and feedback - when you've posted 10 times it opens and you can read and post to existing threads there, and when you've posted 25 times you can start new threads. Anyway, take a look around the forum, revive any threads you feel like (necromancy of various kinds is an approved activity here), and generally enjoy yourself.

Thank you so much, Siana! That quote makes this place sound amazing, honestly. I'll be real, sometimes I drop off the map and then feel too embarrassed and guilty to ever go back... Which is silly, but a hard habit to break! I think a place like this will be good for me, that sort of no-pressure-if-you-disappear atmosphere. And of course, Steve as a semi-Lovecraftian entity in its own right is just a plus for me. The reading challenge looks AMAZING; I'm not sure I want to do a writing challenge this close to NaNo, but a reading goal for the year... That I can do. Though probably sometime tomorrow, since I probably need to sleep now! (Oops.) And I'm definitely looking forward to the November challenges! Oh, I was wondering why the Share Your Work section wasn't open! Ha, that's really cool, that it opens after a certain number of posts. I look forward to it! I'll be sure to look around, be a huge necromancer, and have fun. I've just put up one of those Personal Progress threads, so I'm definitely getting started! I look forward to seeing you around more, and meeting everybody else! /o/

Welcome MxKit! Nope, no guilt. We're artists first, so that means whatever helps you do your best takes priority, even if that means taking time off to focus on health. Feel free to chime in or just straight up create a thread if you want any particular type of challenge based on what you're trying to achieve. The only regular-ish things we do are Nano-themed prep challenges in October, the Reading challenge, occasional off-month NaNo-lite writing challenges, and an idea-generating thing I like to call Daily Plot Bunnies (though it's not so daily now, and we really haven't done it in a while). Otherwise we just take things as they come and we decide what to do each month based on who's here and what we're working on, instead of trying to enforce an extra over-generalized activity. October planning will start soon (usually we create a thread), so feel free to chime in if you have any thoughts! I am dealing with anxiety too, and oh man, your job sounds amazing. I totally get the whole working no more than 20 hours thing. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of stuff do you do, and how do you find the stress levels?
