Welcome to Fix It Up Mix It Up May! This month we have a selection of different challenges - reading, writing and... more writing. Does two kinds of challenges actually count as a selection? Anyway, challenges. We have them. Sign-ups are now open!1. MayNoFiMo - Finish a Novel (or whatever) in May!In part, this is an event for those who started a novel for Camp NaNo in April but didn't finish it. It's also for anyone who's struggling to finish things. In May, commit to getting to the end of an unfinished draft. It could be anything from a short story to a novel - the aim of the game is simply to get to the last page. The rules for participating in this challenge are simple: you need an unfinished draft of something and you need to try to finish it by May 31st. Unlike the official NaNoFiMo in December, this event has no word goal. You can win MayNoFiMo even if you have two more paragraphs to go. 2. SSSS II: The ReturnThat's right, we're rebooting the phenomenally successful Silly Stevian Story Share! This is going to be a three-month challenge again, running either May/June/July or May/June/August for anyone who wants to take a month off for Camp NaNo in July. The exact deadline is basically nonexistent - whatever works with individual schedules and work rates is fine. You can check out the original SSSS stories here: the SSSS sub-board. SK's ' Dead Souls Build Coffins for the Living' is complete (and awesome!), for those looking for something to read. For the reboot, you can follow the 'switch worlds every episode' format as described in the original challenge, choose another prompt/challenge from elsewhere on the web or follow your own path. You also have the following options: * Continue where you left off with your existing SSSS story. * Restart/rewrite your existing SSSS story, making whatever changes you deem necessary to turn it into something you want to write. This may involve editing or reposting existing material. * Start a whole new story, whether you have an existing one or not. 3. Stevian Short Story Share (aka National Short Story Writing Month)The other SSSS: 4 weeks, 4 short stories! Well, sort of. We're actually planning four separate week-long challenges. Jump in whenever you like - do all four, only do some or even just stretch a single short story out for the whole four weeks. In week 4, short story writers are encouraged to post at least one complete story for your fellow Stevians to read. Comments/critique welcome. 4. Reading ChallengeThis is going to be a two-month challenge (May/June). Participants choose a number of pages to read during the challenge. We used to do this by number of books, but it felt weird having books of widely different lengths have the same value. So, page count. We'll have a general discussion thread for this challenge - links to free reads, reviews of things you've read, requests for recommendations and anything else related to the reading challenge. As a bonus to tie in with our 'write short stories' challenge, we're also encouraging participants to read short stories online, then share a link and discuss the story. Things that count towards your page total: * Books * Short stories * Articles and blog posts * Anything else that's substantially text In all cases, both paper and electronic formats count. Where your reading material has a published page count, the number of pages in the work counts regardless of page size i.e. one magazine page = 1 novel page = 1 newspaper page. Where there's no page count (i.e. you're reading from a web page) you can get an approximate page count by copying the text into a word-counter, then dividing the total by 250 to get the page count in Standard Manuscript Format. Of course, if you're only going to read online short stories, articles and blog posts, you might want to skip a step and sign up with a number of words to read. Other things probably coming up this month or in the next few months* Our very first 'virtual write-in' * An editing/revision challenge * Preparation for the second Camp NaNo session in July * Randomly posted 'wridays' and similar challenges As always, if you have any suggestions for new challenges, think we need to change something or have some other suggestion, don't hold back. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Ongoing Steve Stuff1. 10kh - 10,000 Hours ChallengeSo apparently it takes 10,000 hours of doing something to become really good at it. This is a catch-all bucket challenge with no time limit, where no matter how much or how little time you spend on doing something, you can't truly lose. The idea is simple. Keep writing, and watch your numbers go up! Even your most fantastic flailing fish-flop failures pave the pathway to eventual success! 2. Your Own Custom Goals Rebels? I don't see any rebels here. Know why? Because there aren't any! Non word count based challenges are a big part of Steve, and in addition to consistency and timing of writing, most Steve challenges allow goals that don't involve only writing by default. Need to revise your draft? Need to create an outline or synopsis? Need to create an idea but don't have one? Set a goal, set a time, set a task, and fire away! There is no official sign up for this one. Whatever your To Do list is, just drop it in your PPT (you can create a thread if you don't already have one) or add a shortened version to JWJ (or other monthly challenge -- most Steve challenges allow this), tick off the list as items get done, and watch your % complete rise. Accomplishing all your goals for a month gets you credit for winning a Steve challenge! 3. Stevetallica - Win 'Em AllThe idea is meta-simple. Win at least one challenge a month, and be crowned a Mighty Master of All by the great King Steve himself. Any challenge of any length counts, external like NaNo/Camp or special Steve ones, month-long or shorter, or even self-imposed goals for the month. Written by Siana Blackwood and Jᴀy V. Aꜱᴛᴇʀ 💀🐍

JanuaryHARK, ALL WRITERS! By Royal Proclamation of His Royal Highness King Steve, HEAR YE! Steve The WriMo Forum's big 2015 launch is here! Are you looking for a friendly, fun place to chat (and write) with fellow writers in 2015? Haven't thought that far ahead? Well, how about a friendly place with lots of fun challenges just for January? Steve the WriMo Forum is that place! Check out our list of challenges for January and the rest of 2015: 5 6 Writing Challenges To Get In Gear For The Rest Of The Year!JWJ - Just Write January! - Time to get in gear for the rest of the year! Pick a goal (word count, consistency, time), and just write! WIPs allowed. You can also use anything you do for other challenges (here on Steve or external) for this. Non word count goals allowed. SSSS - Silly Stevian Story Share - Take your characters on a mad world-hopping adventure! You may use any story idea you like, but the catch is that for each episode, the setting changes, thus changing your characters accordingly. Madness results! Share each episode with fellow Stevians, read along with others' adventures, and give/receive kind words and encourage along the way. Above all, it's low on pressure, but high in fun! The challenge goes from January 1st - March 31st, but participants may choose a shorter time frame if so desired. 10kh - 10,000 Hours Challenge - So apparently it takes 10,000 hours of doing something to become really good at it. This is a catch-all bucket challenge with no time limit, where no matter how much or how little time you spend on doing something, you can't truly lose. The idea is simple. Keep writing, and watch your numbers go up! Even your most fantastic flailing fish-flop failures pave the pathway to eventual success! NEW - Daily Plot Bunnies - Go Insane, Get Inspired - Hit a wall with a wandering WIP revision? Looking for your next new idea (perhaps for JWJ)? Or, are you just trying to snap yourself out of Post NaNo Depression or holiday haze? Well, now's your chance to do all of these things by giving your brain a roller coaster of a workout that's fun and insane. For this challenge, you'll create a new plot bunny each day for at least 7 or more days. It's like a mini NaNo for inspiration: the rapid pace shoves aside any chance of second guessing yourself, thus allowing your brain to create freely and madly. At the end, you'll have a nice slush pile of ideas to sort through. Some will be terrible, but you'll be surprised at some of the diamonds your brain comes up with! Non Word Count Goals - Rebels? I don't see any rebels here. Know why? Because there aren't any! Non word count based challenges are a big part of Steve, and in addition to consistency and timing of writing, most Steve challenges allow goals that don't involve only writing by default. Minions, froods, and cool dudes...ALL HAIL! Camp NaNo is either here or a hair's breadth of time away, so this month we'll be doing something a little different. That's not to say we haven't got some juicy challenge goodies in store, though. Check out what's happening this month! April: Camp NaNo!Camp NaNo Challenges in Steve - If you missed your favorite official OLL challenge lsdt November, now's the time to jump in!
