For June the staff have been talking about having a 'theme' in addition to JuNoWriMo and because Camp NaNoWriMo is coming up in July, a 'Camp Prep' theme seemed like the most obvious option. So, in June the wrimo/theme running in conjunction would look sort of like this: - JuNoWriMo - set a wordcount goal for the month and participate in fun wordcount-boosting challenges
- Camp NaNo Prep - participate in workshops and challenges to help you prepare for July Camp
- Free choice - set your own goal of any kind (editing, reading, housework, gardening... ) and chat with your fellow Stevians.
This is pretty much based on our vague idea that something other than just a basic *nowrimo event might interest people. A list of all the possible activities we could do in a month is too boring, though, so 'themes' were the answer. Anyway, Camp NaNo Prep. You don't have to be doing Camp NaNo to participate, although it probably helps. Now, the scary part of this thread. I'd like to encourage everyone preparing for Camp to share their knowledge. It says 'workshops and challenges' in that list, but only you know what kinds of things you'd like to see. Do you know a challenge that's the perfect thing to kick your butt into getting all your prep done in time for July 1? Is there a terrifying aspect of prep (or Camp) that you'd like to see dealt with in a workshop? Would you like to run a workshop? Post your thoughts on the Camp Prep theme here!

We could do a series of 4 week-long workshops consisting of simple exercises. People can either do the whole thing, or join in as needed. Since we haven't done workshops before, we could start off by combining exercises that have worked for us in the past. The aim here is really just to have a set of defined assignments for each day.
Need something for characters. (NOT character sheets. People can do those on their own, and pick the ones that work for them. For a workshop, something more interactive might work. ... ... ... ROLE PLAY. I'm serious.)
Week 1: DPBs. Either randomly or if you have a theme/idea in mind that you need to develop, use that.
Week 2: ?
Week 3: ? (Go through DPBs and refine/clean up? Or should this go in week 2?) (Maybe some preliminary free writing/walking around in characters' shoes for a bit. Works for me, don't know about others.)
Week 4: ?
Over the course of the month: 30 Days of Worldbuilding.
Other random things: Snowflake? Maybe the first 5 steps in one week, though maybe simplified a bit to fit in the time frame. Try 4 different plotting methods in 4 weeks?

Okay... Week 1: DPBs. Week 2/Week 3: Build a Frankenbunny. Preliminary free-writing. (One each week, but which order?) Week 4: ? Final day: Outline your novel in 30 minutesWhole month: Snowflake. 4 plotting methods in 4 weeks. 30 days of worldbuilding. Role-play. --- One each of week 2 and 3 should definitely be free-writing and DPB refining/cleanup (Build a Frankenbunny ) but I don't know which is which. No ideas for week 4, either. What do we usually do in the week before a wrimo? Synopsis, bio, start a PPT... I need a planner's perspective on this. Any planners out there?

What do we usually do in the week before a wrimo? Flail? I have a lurking suspicion I might be one, but you probably meant a planner who actually knows what they're doing.Week 1: DPBs. Week 2: Build a Frankenbunny. Week 3: Preliminary free-writing. Week 4: ? Role play? Shortened Snowflake? Phase outline? User's choice of planning method? Write a Synopsis? Something to flesh out conflicts and plot threads? Final day: Outline your novel in 30 minutesWhole month: Snowflake. 4 plotting methods in 4 weeks. 30 days of worldbuilding. Role-play.

I think 'write a synopsis' is the best bet for Week 4. If that's not enough, maybe a shortened snowflake, or an extended synopsis of 4-5 pages.

Okay.
Week 1: 7 plot bunnies in 7 days Week 2: Build a Frankenbunny Week 3: Preliminary Free-writing Week 4: Write a Synopsis
Final day: Emergency 'plan your novel in 30 minutes' session.
---
Now onto the next question: is anyone going to do Camp NaNo/JulNoWriMo?

I'm not doing Camp, but I'm doing the workshop in June. Then again, if the workshop is successful, I might actually go and do Camp.
I wish I had a better strategy for Week 4, but really what it entails is pillaging other stories and using them as a template to map out my own.

I'm thinking sort of the same - do the workshop, but only do Camp if June goes really well. Or possibly if I decide to be a rebel and do something like '30 days of worldbuilding' as my Camp project. I'm not making any kind of decision until close to the end of June, though.
Now we just need to recruit some new Stevians to do the workshop with us.

Yeah, same. My goal is really to get to a point where all the insane crap I come up with is organized, so I can build upon it, and not flail and panic when I have to pants things. My focus needs more focus.
I'm drafting the start of a post that I'm going to put up in Writing Groups and Clubs.
Yeah, it's a mess. I always have trouble writing these. I can't help but feel that it's shoving Steve in people's faces, without explaining what we are, really.

Maybe put in some bits from the 'NaMayWriMo has a new home' message?

I vote we call this workshop CampNoPlanMo, or CampNoPlotMo. Heck, if we do a similar one for NaNo, we could even call October NaNoPlotMo, or NaNoPlanMo if that's too close to home.
