Look at the last post, and subvert it. If something is a good outcome, you'd write "unfortunately, x....". The next person would then write "fortunately, y....", and so on.
Example:
The admins were setting up Steve The Forum.
Poster 1: Unfortunately, no one knew about it yet.
Poster 2: Fortunately, they now had the ability to send mass emails to poke people.
And so on.
Starting:
Emily had always hated her name, and now she had crash landed on an alien planet where no one could pronounce it.

Unfortunately, they had no trouble pronouncing "That weirdo who can't fly a spaceship."

Fortunately, they could all pronounce 'autopilot', which the ship had.

Unfortunately, when Emily was trying to repair her ship the autopilot malfunctioned

Fortunately, they realized they were still on the ground.
Hmmm, since it's just us, looks like we're both stuck being either the harbinger of doom or the clown of luck. Someone else get down here so we can mix it up!!

Unfortunately, the ground under the ship collapsed (seemingly for no reason whatsoever).

Fortunately, the ship turned out to be a submarine, and they landed in water.

Fortunately, the airlock was sealed, and they had time to ransack the storage area and put on diving suits.

Unfortunately, the airlock was locked due to the high pressure outside the ship, so they were trapped inside.

Fortunately, they were able to get into their suits in time before the water flooded in and the pressure equalized.

Unfortunately... *mumblemumblesomethingitchingpowder*
Just kidding.
Unfortunately, when they got to the surface armed guards were waiting for them.

Fortunately, the armed guards didn't have legs because they were mermaids, and the team had brought their rocks (check), acid (check), laser beams (check), bodybags (check); there are no fingerprints underwater.

Unfortunately, there are tracker otters, who could pick up a trail using even the slightest disturbance in the water - and follow on land or sea.

Fortunately, the tracker otters decided Emily was their long-lost queen and swore to guard and protect her.
